Una Walsh’s visit to Primary 6

9th May 2023

Una Walsh, local historian, recently visited Primary 6. She shared her wealth of knowledge and passion of South Armagh. Every child was engaged and keen to learn about their local area. Recently we climbed Slieve Gullion, Una added to our understanding through the power of oral history by telling lots of interesting stories about the lake on top of Slieve Gullion and the tomb.

We travelled back 6000 years in time and discussed Annaghmare Court Cairn, a Stone Age site.  This was particularly interesting for some pupils as Annaghmare is the town land in which they reside. Some pupils mentioned having already visited this archaeological site or wishing to visit it in the near future.

We listened to some local legends- Fionn Mac Cumhaill and the Cailleach, The Salmon of Knowledge, Cuchulainn, Brown Bull of Cooley and The Children of Lir.

Thank you to Una who taught everyone in P6 lots of interesting facts-hopefully the pupils share these facts with you at home.
