Numeracy

On the 23rd of March we were learning how to find the perimeter and area of shapes. To find the perimeter of a shape you need to add up all the sides. To find the area of a shape you times the base by the height. On the 28th of March we were learning how to change a fraction into a decimal and on the 29th of March we were changing decimals to fractions and words words and then ordering decimals from smallest to largest and largest to smallest. On the 30th of March we completed decimal sequences and wrote the decimal number between whole numbers.

World Around Us

Rainforest animals

This month we have been creating mammal fact files, reptile fact files, bird fact files, amphibian fact files and fish fact files. We used different websites to research rainforest animals. We have also been learning about the layers of the rainforest. The top layer is called the emergent layer, underneath is the canopy layer,  Then it’s the understory layer and the bottom is aclled the forest floor. My favourite rainforest animal to learn about was the ring tailed lemur because it is very cute and creepy at the same time.

Animals and us

This month we have been identifying  the characteristics of Vertebrates. Vertebrates include Mammals, Reptiles, Amphibians, Fish and Birds.  We created an A-Z list of different Mammals. We wrotef information and drew and labelled pictures for Reptiles, Amphibians, Fish and birds. My favourite animals to learn about were Fish.

Literacy

This month P.6 have been learning and editing stories about myths. P.6 wrote amazing stories about Thunder and Lightning, Minotoars, Ali Baba and Moonlight and Candlelight. P.6 were learning how to use punctuation such as clauses and commas. We also were learning about the difference between its and it’s,  possessive pronouns, antomyms and prefixes. My favourite story to read was called Moonlight and Candlelight. It was about a girl called Wriggly who thought that the world was going to end. I wrote my own version of the story.  This is a part of my story:

When Wriggly saw the orange moon and the pinkish sky she knew that the world was going to end. Wriggly ran back to her house and she felt as if her heart was doing a mad cartwheel. When Wriggly got home she was crying to her mum."What's wrong?" said her mum. Wriggly told her mum that the world was going to end. At first her mum did not believe her but then Wriggly told her mum to look out the window.
