April Website News
For our Easter activity, P6 made Easter baskets. They decorated and assembled their baskets so they could carry their lovely chocolate buns and eggs home in them. Thank you to Sally for helping us make our Easter buns.
During Holy Week we learned about all the significant events leading up to the Death and Resurrection of Jesus. With the other Primary 6 class we visited our local church and completed ‘The Stations of the Cross’ through a Prayer Service.
We had an excellent programme ‘Choices and Changes’ delivered to us by ‘Love for Life.’ It reminded us of our uniqueness, value and worth as well as highlighting the importance of thinking through decisions.
P6 have started a reading buddy scheme with Mrs McKeown's P2 class which we are very excited about. Each pupil has been paired up one one or two p2 pupils and each week, they will get a chance to meet up and read together and share their thoughts on stories. When meeting our buddies for the first time, all pupils got to know each other a little and we got to do this outside in the sunshine!
Literacy
This month, we were learning to construct sentences and write a persuasive piece of writing on the effects of deforestation. We looked at changing nouns and verbs but using prefixes and we also had to find words in a dictionary to find their meaning and write them into sentences. We were learning to join sentences together using conjunctions and how to identify different letter strings in words with different sounds.

WAU – Rainforests
This month in WAU we learned about many wonderful animals in the rainforest. One of them is the queen Alexandra butterfly.
We learned that in the amazon rainforest there are approximately 400 tribes in the rainforest and around 77 of them have no contact with the outside world. There are diseases that are mild for living in developed countries can be very serious for those living in the rainforest tribes.
We learned that some tribes on the rainforest are nomadic. Nomadic tribes do not live in one place, they move regularly from one place to another. This helps to make their way of life sustainable by preventing too much hunting and gathering in one area.

Numeracy
This month we have been learning about many different and interesting things in numeracy such as mulitpliying decimals by 10 and 100 which was a bit tricky at first but as we did more, it got easier. Then we looked at 3d shapes and their nets which was really fun and I enjoyed learning about them.
Then we learned about dividing numbers by 10 and 100 which I thought was both easy and hard. We looked at prisms and pyramids and the difference between them. We worked on decimals and percentages which we are currently doing. I feel that it is easy but a little bit hard but my favourite part of it all was the 3d shapes because I think it is really fun and easy.

WAU – Climate Change
This month we have learned about climate change and a lot more but I am going to talk about climate change. We have been doing world biomes like the temperate forest and marine biome. We all got to choose which biome we wanted to research, we got to choose between fresh water, coral or marine biomes and temperate and taiga forests.
We have also learned about different animals like the mountain gorilla and the black rhinos because they are endangered due to climate change.
