P5 November News

1st Dec 2021

At the beginning of November, we celebrated All Saints Day and All Soul’s Day. We chose to remember Saint Padre Pio and Saint John the Baptist during our daily prayer service. On our classroom window, we made a lovely colourful display in memory of our loved ones that have passed away and are in Heaven with God. As we approach another month closer to Christmas, we are working on our Advent promises so that we can prepare ourselves for Christmas by doing some good deeds at home and school.

We’ve had a busy few weeks with Mrs Murray arriving back on the scene and giving us all new jobs.

During the first week of her return she worked with us on our handwriting and reinforced the use of capital letters, full stops and commas in our writing. Then we moved on to using speech marks in direct speech.

We made Anti-Bullying posters for the Anti-Bullying competition in which the theme was one kind word. Lily and Faye won from our class. Along with the P4 children, we created one kind word adjectives of a good friend and posted them on the walls around the school to remind pupils to be kind.

We also looked at the layout of instructions and this week, we plan to write recipes for friendship.

Our class were the winners of the Mathletics Cup during September and October so we won a trip to the park. We plan to keep this winning up so we can get to the park together as a class. We revised addition and subtraction and the times tables. This week we began to learn the 6 & 7 times tables by using songs to help us to learn them off by heart (Taylor Swift’s Shake it off & Pharrell William’s Happy).

Our topic in World Around Us is Farming, so we started off with the historical side of things and we learned about Stone Age Farming & Tools.  We are busy practising for our ‘virtual Christmas Show’ and Mrs Murray has a sore throat from singing already. She told us that we will learn to sing the song and not shout! We reckon, Mrs Murray needs to take some of her own advice!
