P5 Jan/Feb News

28th Feb 2022

Happy and Peaceful New Year to all, even though it is nearly March!

P5 have continued to work hard during January and February. In Literacy we found out about a great explorer from Ireland called Tom Creane. Next we looked at imaginary stories, then we then used adjectives and similes to create our own descriptions (a giant, alien, spaceship) using language appropriate to the text.

In Numeracy we looked at angles – right, acute and obtuse angles. Then we consolidated 3D shape and looked at their nets. We worked in small groups and enjoyed building some interesting structures using the various nets. Next we revised the times tables and learned how to multiply a 2-digit number by 1-digit. Then we used the bus stop method to divide numbers up to 99.

In World Around Us we found some interesting facts about the Egyptians and their beliefs. Our trip to the Navan Centre was cancelled due to weather conditions so it is hoped that this trip will take place on Friday 11th March.

In Art we created beautiful Winter scenes using chalk. Then we made St Bridget crosses using paper and Fr Tremer came into school to bless them we also learned a new prayer to pray to St Bridget.

We had a visit of two guinea pigs named Popcorn and Muffin . They belong to Eileen McShane. We all got a chance to pet them and learn some fun facts about their behaviour.

We have a new teacher in our class called Miss McMahon and she will be teaching us alongside Mrs Murray for the month of March/April.

We look forward to the Spring months and brighter days ahead so that we can get outside and help with the clean-up of our Eco garden.
