P3 January News
Primary Three – January News
January has been a busy and exciting month in Primary Three! The boys and girls have been working incredibly hard across all areas of the curriculum, and we are delighted to share some of our learning highlights.
Literacy
This month, we became Explanation Text Experts!
The children learned how to identify all the key features of an explanation text, including:
- A clear title
- An interesting introduction
- A cyclical diagram
- Labels and pictures
- Important vocabulary linked to the topic (for example: life cycle, stage, develop, transform, chrysalis, hatch)
We explored how writers choose special topic words to help the reader understand what they are explaining. The boys and girls did a brilliant job using these new words confidently in their own writing.
After learning what makes an explanation text effective, Primary Three created their very own explanation texts, remembering to include all the features we had learned about.
We also designed our own monsters, using adjectives and commas to write amazing descriptions full of imagination and detail.
To finish off the month, the class became Dictionary Detectives!
We practised alphabetical order and worked together to create a Primary Three Dictionary filled with interesting new words and definitions
Numeracy – Mastering Numbers to 100!
In Numeracy, we’ve been diving deeper into numbers up to 100.
The children have been:
- Partitioning numbers into tens and ones
- Writing numbers as words
- Using games, cubes, and whiteboards to show their understanding
We also have been learning how to identify coins and make amounts up to 50p!
World Around Us – Life Cycles Everywhere!
January’s topic was Life Cycles, and Primary Three loved every moment!
We explored the life cycles of a butterfly, bee, frog, owl, turtle, penguin, spider
and flower
The children were fascinated by how each animal or plant grows and changes.
To bring our learning to life, the class created amazing cyclical diagrams. Each one included:
- A title
- Detailed pictures
- Clear labels
- Arrows showing the stages in order
They were bright, colourful, and beautifully presented — fantastic work!
PDMU – Growing Kind Hearts
In PDMU, we focused on being thoughtful and caring.
We talked about:
🌟 Things we are thankful for
🌟 Ways we can help in our community
🌟 The importance of asking for help when we need it
The children shared wonderful ideas and showed great empathy and understanding.
Well Done, Primary Three!
What an exciting and productive January!
We are so proud of the enthusiasm, teamwork, kindness, and creativity shown every single day. We can’t wait to see what February brings — more adventures await!
