January in Primary 6
Primary 6 have continued to work well and learn lots of new things. At the beginning of 2026 we ‘turned over a new leaf’ by making resolutions that we will try to keep this term. Some are going to try and improve school work, complete chores or continue to be kind, caring and thoughtful to those we meet.
In Literacy we read a range of different poetry – Acrostic, Metaphor and Haikus. We wrote metaphor poems about weather, colours and emotions. We drew amusing pictures to illustrate some metaphors. We enjoyed following the syllable layout to compose a haiku. We typed our poems, added pictures and borders to create poetry class displays.
We celebrated Catholic Schools Week and how we are called to Holiness through prayer, love, friendship, family life, service and mission. We celebrated the important role our grandparents and great-grandparents play in our lives. We created cards and a memory board to give to them.
Una Walsh recently visited Primary 6. She shared her wealth of knowledge and passion of South Armagh. Every child was engaged and keen to learn about their local area especially Lisleitrim Fort. Una added to our understanding of St. Brigid through the power of oral history by telling us lots of interesting facts of this wonderful Saint and goddess. We’re going to place a piece of cloth (Bratóg Bríde) outside on St.Brigid’s Eve. St. Brigid will bless it and it is thought to give protection and healing qualities to be used in the home over the next 12 months.
Well done to all our Pupils of the Week, those who met their Accelerated Reader target and those who received certificates in Mathletics throughout January.
