January in P7 – A Month of Creativity, Curiosity and Craft
January has been a wonderfully busy start to the new term, with P7 diving into a wide range of learning experiences that stretched our imaginations and challenged our thinking.
In literacy, we have been developing our creative writing skills with a particular focus on the “show, don’t tell” technique. Pupils learned how to express emotions and create atmosphere through carefully chosen vocabulary, sensory detail and descriptive language. Everyone worked exceptionally hard to bring their characters and settings to life. Building on this, pupils then transformed their stories into digital books using Book Creator, creating engaging and imaginative e‑books. To finish the project, the class had the opportunity to present their completed books to their peers, sharing their creativity and celebrating each other’s work.
In numeracy, we tackled several problem‑solving tasks, including work on early algebra and radial symmetry. The children experimented with using symbols and letters to represent unknown values and enjoyed discovering how symmetry appears in art, nature and everyday objects. Lots of teamwork, discussion and logical reasoning helped us deepen our understanding.
To mark St Brigid’s Day, we had the pleasure of making our own St Brigid’s crosses. The pupils loved learning about this Irish tradition and were very proud to take home their beautifully made crosses.
January has certainly set a positive tone for the term ahead—well done, P7!
