February in Primary 7
February has been an exciting, busy, and rewarding month for our Primary 7 pupils, filled with hands‑on learning and new experiences.
In Numeracy, our focus has been on the real‑life skill of budgeting. Pupils explored why budgeting is important and discussed the many situations in everyday life where we need to plan and manage money carefully. Through practical activities and problem‑solving tasks, they learned how to create a simple budget and think ahead when making spending decisions.
In Literacy, P7 began their journey into the world of journalistic writing. They examined the features of news reports and discussed how language can change depending on the audience and purpose. Pupils compared formal and informal language, experimented with active and passive sentences, and explored how journalists work to write in an unbiased, factual way.
In WAU, we launched our new topic, Business, which has already captured the pupils’ interest. As part of this, P7 started the Young Enterprise “Business Beginnings” programme—a fantastic opportunity for pupils to learn about entrepreneurship, teamwork, and the world of work. The programme has been hugely engaging, and we look forward to seeing their ideas grow.
A highlight this month was a visit from members of the WALD Centre, who joined us to make St. Brigid’s crosses. Pupils enjoyed learning about the traditions associated with St. Brigid and had the chance to practise their weaving skills using rushes. It was also a lovely opportunity to welcome local community members into our classroom.
Outdoors, our P7 pupils threw themselves enthusiastically into the launch of our “Giving Back” project. Despite the cold February weather, they worked together to clear, tidy, and prepare the school’s outdoor play areas in support of exciting new developments planned for the space. We are extremely proud of their effort and community spirit—well done, P7!
February has been a month full of learning, teamwork, creativity, and community connections. We can’t wait to see what next month brings!
