February in Primary 6

27th Feb 2026

Primary 6 have continued to work well during February.  We are very lucky to have Miss Cassidy, a student teacher, teaching us alongside Mrs McMahon and Mrs O’Kane.  She is teaching us lots of exciting new things and completing them in a fun and interactive way.

We thoroughly enjoyed our ‘Taster Day’ to St. Joseph’s.  We got the opportunity to take part in a range of subjects.  Check out the photographs!

In Religion we learned lots of interesting facts and even some legends associated with St. Brigid, who was born in Faughart Co. Louth, a few miles from Cullyhanna.  On Wednesday 18th February it was Ash Wednesday which marked the beginning of Lent.  We learned about the rituals and symbols of Lent and made our Lenten promises.  Miss Cassidy displayed these in footprints and we are making ‘Our Lenten Journey’ together until Easter.  Canon Toner visited us and distributed ashes.

In World Around Us we started our new topic ‘Rainforests.’  We have been researching the location, climate, layers and all the different animals and plants that live there.  We are really looking forward to learning more over the coming weeks.

In Numeracy we have been learning about 3D shapes and their properties.  We were able to count their faces, edges and vertices and separate them into a Venn diagram using different criteria.  Some pupils went on a ‘Treasure Trail’ to find 3D shapes within our school environment.

In Art we looked at the work of the Spanish painter Pablo Picasso.  Picasso is famous for inventing a form of art called Cubism.  This type of art work shows objects or people from many angles at the same time.  We created our own cubism portraits with lots of bright colours and unusual shapes.

Well done to all our Pupils of the week, those that met their Accelerated Targets and received certificates in Mathletics.
