February in Primary 5!
Primary 5 have enjoyed an exciting and engaging few weeks, full of hands‑on learning, creativity, and new experiences.
Our recent trip to the Navan Centre was a highlight, where the children explored what life was like in Ancient Egypt. They took part in a mummification workshop, examined real artefacts, and even designed their own Egyptian crowns—bringing our World Around Us topic vividly to life. Back in the classroom, we continued our learning through art, creating stunning sunset pyramid paintings and crafting colourful Egyptian jewellery.
The class also led our whole‑school assembly on the theme of excellence. They shared the important message that excellence isn’t about being perfect—it’s about always trying your best, showing determination, and treating others with kindness and respect. Their confident performances and thoughtful reflections made us all very proud.
During our Scoil Spreagtha workshop, the children followed instructions as Gaeilge to draw their own Labubu characters, helping them revise and strengthen their vocabulary on an corp (the body).
We had lots of fun celebrating Pancake Tuesday. The children enjoyed a pancake‑topping station and solved pancake‑themed word problems in maths. We also learned about the history of Shrove Tuesday and why pancakes became a tradition. On Ash Wednesday, we received our ashes and discussed what we might give up—or take up—for Lent.
In Literacy, we focused on using direct speech to write imaginative narratives about aliens in space. We also explored word clines, helping us choose the most precise adjectives to enhance the impact of our writing.
In Numeracy, we revised the four operations and practised identifying which one to use when solving word problems. We also worked on money challenges and two‑step function machines, strengthening the children’s reasoning and problem‑solving skills.
