Primary 3 Class News
Primary 3 have been working extremely hard and enjoying lots of exciting learning experiences across all areas of the curriculum. Here is a snapshot of what we have been learning recently:
Literacy
In Literacy, we have been learning about the important roles of an author and an illustrator. We explored a variety of storybooks and practised identifying who wrote the book and who created the illustrations. We discussed how illustrations help the reader understand the story and how words and pictures work together.
We read the story Superworm and really enjoyed talking about the different characters. We thought carefully about their actions and discussed the reasons why they behaved the way they did. This helped us to develop our comprehension and reasoning skills.
We also learned how important it is to plan before writing. The children planned their own versions of Superworm by creating a minibeast superhero, a problem and a solution to save the day. Alongside this, we had great fun learning about riddles and tongue twisters, exploring how playing with words can be tricky and fun. The children created their own riddles and tongue twisters and enjoyed sharing them with the class.
Numeracy
In Numeracy, we have been learning all about patterns. We explored repeating patterns and created our own using 2D and 3D shapes, colours, and objects. We learned how to identify and describe the core of a pattern and explain how patterns repeat.
We also focused on learning the months of the year. To help us remember them in the correct order, we worked together to create a fun song and dance, which the children loved performing. In addition, the children have started learning how to add numbers vertically. They practised setting their work out neatly and using correct mathematical language while explaining their thinking.
The World Around Us
We began an exciting new topic all about Minibeasts. We learned what a minibeast is and practised classifying different minibeasts into groups. The children learned new scientific vocabulary such as insects and arachnids and enjoyed identifying their features.
We explored different minibeast habitats and went outside on a minibeast hunt to observe where they live. We learned what minibeasts eat and discussed food chains, helping us understand how living things depend on each other. We also learned how different minibeasts move and designed our own imaginary insects, thinking carefully about their body parts and movements.
As part of our learning on camouflage, the children designed and decorated butterflies to blend into our classroom environment, helping them understand how camouflage helps minibeasts survive in the wild.
PDMU
In PDMU, we focused on learning about positive coping skills and how to manage our emotions when we are feeling sad, angry or worried. We practised ways to calm ourselves and talked about who we can ask for help when we need it.
We also learned about the importance of sharing, taking turns and showing kindness to others. The children discussed how they can help to look after the environment and care for the world around them, both in school and at home.
The children have shown fantastic enthusiasm, creativity, and effort across all areas of learning. Well done, Primary 3 — keep up the brilliant work!
