P2 January News 2023

31st Jan 2023

During January we have been focusing on the theme Winter.  After watching and reading 'The Snowman' by Raymond Briggs we have made Snowmen pictures using chalk on black paper for display.  We also made Snowmen Poems and 3D snowmen for display also.  During our discussion about winter clothes Saorfhlaith modelled all Mrs McKeown's clothes - hat, scarf, snood, gloves and even coat!

Mr Kelly (student teacher) helped us make ice decorations.  We went on a winter walk around the school grounds and picked up some natural ingredients.  We put our natural ingredients into containers with cooled boiled water and put them in the freezer over night.  The next day we hung them out and had great fun watching them melt.

To celebrate Chinese New Year Darragh Nolan's mum and sister Mia visited the class to tell us all about Chinese New Year and to tell us it is the year of the Rabbit.  To celebrate Chinese new Year in their house they love to eat noodles and dumplings.  Mrs Nolan's mum also taught us some Chinese phrases and songs.  We made Chinese lanterns for display also.  We had a special Chinese meal in school too! Thank you Alice 😀

As part of Catholic Schools Week we celebrated National Grandparents day and Ceada's Granny Marie McShane visited the class.  She talked about the different names we call our Grandparents and some of us are even called after our Grandparents (ie Patrick is called after his grandfather Pat Connell and John Joe is called John Joe too after his Grandad Magill).  She also spoke about how Grandparents are very special.  They love to spend time with their grandchildren whether it is reading them a story or taking them to the park.  We made Grandparents cards for the children to take home to their Grandparents.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank both Mrs Nolan and Mrs McShane for visiting the class and chatting to the children.
